“Are you mad at me?” was a sentence that lived in my everyday vocabulary. I can’t remember the last time I used it – until the other day (and I reset myself right back to where I should be).
The longer we stand alone, the more truth we see.
We’re always attracted to things that are exciting. A smile. Someone confident, funny. Something new.
They say that about new relationships too – when things stop being exciting, that’s the real part of the relationship. Building a business, living life, is no different.
There are weeks while building a business that it feels like I’m running on a high, and that excitement makes the weeks in between not seem so exciting. That’s where the real work begins.
Being consistent in anything you are trying to accomplish, is important. Dedication, digging in. There are more of those “average days” than not. But we can certainly work on feeling better about those average days – to keep that excitement and interest alive.
What I am discovering now, more than ever, is that this validation comes from within. ALL VALIDATION!
Let me give you an example…when you are working all day every day for the same boss – you’ll get an “attagirl”, a sense of accomplishment and pride when someone gives you props for doing a good job – only, not all bosses do that.
OR it’s followed up with the next issue or something you could have done better next time leaving your sense of accomplishment by the wayside.
Working for yourself as a solopreneur is tough stuff. The only props you get is the successes you set forth for yourself. The money you bring in each money is the proof of your concept, the reward for doing a good job.
The feedback you receive gives you an idea you’re heading in the right direction, and your message is clear.
As someone who was raised as always seeking approval, having bosses that overlook the commencement – you’re left always feeling like you’re lacking.
Where do we wind up getting this validation from? Ourselves.
Keeping up with the people around us gives us a false sense of accomplishment. Everyone buying the same stuff, going on the same lavish vacations. Don’t get me wrong, we get ideas from everywhere – and there is nothing wrong with seeing someone else’s accomplishments and wanting to emulate that in your own life, that’s how it goes. We get inspiration from the people around us (which is why it’s super important to surround yourself with the right people).
I had a trainer once who said “think of someone you admire and take concepts and pieces of their life to create in your own” – meaning, don’t become the person, be your own version – just not in the materialistic sense.
What’s so attractive about that person? Are they always positive? Smiling? Do they stand up for themselves? Appear confident?
Keep in mind – in general, the people you encounter throughout your day put their best foot forward, there’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes…but that doesn’t mean you’re not capable of achieving the same level of happiness.
I’ve spent the last few days buried in my book again. What felt like a big mountain to conquer, has now been broken down into more manageable steps, necessary if I want to accomplish my goal!
As a solopreneur, building a lifestyle and media company – in less than a year I have stepped so far outside my comfort zone to accomplish:
Re-establishing my consulting business
Launching my coaching business
Publishing two journals
Creating a local meetup group – with many more adventures to come
Launching a podcast – while approaching 100,000 views on YouTube (in just under 5 months!)
Growing an engaged audience on Facebook of nearly 6,000
Writing a book to be published (very soon!)
Writing 195 newsletters – to an email audience approaching 300
Writing 37 blog posts – baring my heart and soul
Coaching dozens of individuals, helping them see and love themselves
I am building a community of people who have the same desire to think and do better and it makes my heart so happy!
The cover photo…never in my life have I been so sure of something working out. Everything about this (even the stressful days) feels good!
We’re just about halfway through the year – what have you accomplished? Make a list and put it where you can see it!
Now – what do you want to add to that list in the next six months?
You are SO capable of everything you want to accomplish in life – and if you need help, I’m here for you!
Sending you SO MUCH love!
Xo,
Laura
